Overview

Trumpet Daffodil ‘Mando’

Daffodil ‘Mando’ is one of the earliest flowering daffodil varieties, bringing a welcome burst of bright yellow colour to the garden in the heart of winter. Known for its reliability and strong performance, this variety produces classic trumpet-shaped blooms that create a cheerful and uplifting display when little else is in flower.

Flowering as early as January and reaching around 40 cm in height, ‘Mando’ is perfect for adding early-season interest to borders, containers, and naturalised areas. Its dependable nature makes it an excellent choice for low-maintenance planting and long-lasting spring displays.

Key Features

  • Very Early Flowering: One of the first daffodils to bloom, flowering from January.

  • Classic Yellow Blooms: Bright, traditional flowers that bring instant colour to the garden.

  • Reliable Performer: Easy to grow and dependable in a wide range of conditions.

  • Ideal Garden Height: Reaches approximately 40 cm tall, perfect for borders and beds.

  • Great for Naturalising: Returns year after year and spreads gradually over time.

Gardener’s Tip

Plant bulbs between September and December, around 8 cm deep in well-drained soil in a sunny or lightly shaded position. Early varieties like ‘Mando’ perform best in sheltered areas, helping protect blooms from harsh winter weather.

For the best effect, plant in clusters or drifts to create a fuller, more natural display. Wear gloves when handling bulbs, as they may cause skin irritation and can be harmful if ingested by pets. Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering so the bulbs can store energy for strong blooms the following season.
