Overview

Tarragon ‘Dragoncello’

A classic culinary herb, Tarragon ‘Dragoncello’ is prized for its distinctive, slightly sweet anise flavour, making it a staple in French and Mediterranean cooking. Its aromatic leaves are perfect for enhancing sauces, chicken dishes, fish, and dressings.

This variety grows well in Irish conditions when given a warm, sheltered spot, and is ideal for herb gardens, raised beds, or containers. With its soft green foliage and elegant growth habit, it’s both practical and attractive in the garden.

Key Features

  • Classic Culinary Herb: Essential ingredient in many traditional dishes

  • Distinctive Flavour: Light aniseed taste with aromatic leaves

  • Versatile Use: Ideal for sauces, meats, and dressings

  • Productive Growth: Produces plenty of usable leaves

  • Suitable for Containers: Perfect for patios and small spaces

Gardener’s Tip

Sow in late spring and grow in well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered position. Tarragon prefers lighter soils and does not like to sit in overly wet conditions, especially during colder months.

Harvest regularly to encourage fresh growth and prevent plants from becoming woody. Best used fresh for maximum flavour, but leaves can also be dried for later use.
