Overview
Anemone 'The Bride': The Elegant White Poppy
Bring a sense of pure, classic romance to your garden with Anemone coronaria 'The Bride'. As part of the famous "De Caen" group, this variety is cherished for its large, poppy-like single flowers that feature silky, snow-white petals surrounding a fresh lime-green centre. It is widely known as the "Florist Anemone" because of its exceptional vase life, making it a staple in spring bridal bouquets and elegant table arrangements. These delicate looking but resilient blooms sit atop ferny, parsley-like foliage, creating a lush green backdrop that makes the white flowers pop. Versatile and easy to grow, they are perfect for containers, rockeries, or front-of-border displays, offering a sophisticated, timeless look.
Key Features
-
Florist Favourite: One of the most popular cut flowers in the world, these blooms have strong stems and last for up to two weeks in water, bringing elegance into the home.
-
Succession Planting: You can stagger your planting times to extend the show; plant in autumn for spring blooms, or plant in early spring for a summer display.
-
Container Perfect: Their compact habit makes them ideal for patio pots and window boxes, where their intricate centres can be admired up close.
-
Symbol of Purity: As the name suggests, the pristine white blooms are often associated with weddings and innocence, perfect for a "Moon Garden" or white-themed border.
Gardener's Tip
Anemone corms (bulbs) often look like small, shrivelled acorns or hard pellets when they arrive. Do not be alarmed! To ensure successful growth, soak the bulbs in lukewarm water for 3 to 4 hours (or overnight) before planting. This rehydrates them, causing them to swell to nearly twice their dry size, and signals the plant to "wake up" and start rooting immediately.
