Overview
Nerine Bowdenii Mixed - The Jewel of the Autumn Garden
Nerine bowdenii is a breath-taking autumn bulb (often grown from seed by patient gardeners) that provides a spectacular burst of vivid colour just as the rest of the garden begins to fade. This "Mixed" selection offers a stunning palette of candy-floss pinks, deep magentas, and shimmering whites, all featuring the characteristic recurve, lily-like petals and prominent, elegant stamens. Reaching skyward on leafless, architectural stems, these "Jewels of the Autumn" appear almost magically from September onwards. Perfectly adapted to the well-drained, sunny corners of Irish gardens, they bring a late-season tropical elegance that is both hardy and incredibly long-lasting.
Key Features
-
Radiant Autumn Brilliance: One of the few plants to bloom in late autumn, providing vibrant, jewel-toned flowers when most other perennials have gone dormant.
-
Architectural "Lily" Form: Features unique, strap-shaped petals that curl back elegantly, creating a starburst effect that catches the low autumn sun.
-
Exceptional Cut Flower: Highly prized by florists for their extraordinary vase life and sturdy stems, making them a perfect choice for late-season indoor arrangements.
-
Resilient & Hardy: Despite their exotic appearance, these are surprisingly tough plants that thrive in poor, bone-dry soils where other flowers might struggle.
Gardener's Tip
Don't give them too much space! Unlike many other bulbs, Nerines flower best when their roots are restricted and the bulbs are congested. They thrive on being a little "pot-bound." Once you plant them, resist the urge to move or divide them. They resent disturbance and may take a season to settle, but if left alone to form a large, tight clump, they will reward you with more and more flowers every single year.
