Overview

Freesia Single Mixed: The Fragrance of Summer

Freesia Single Mixed is a delightful collection of one of the world's most beloved scented flowers. While modern doubles are bred for size, these classic single-flowered varieties are prized for their pure, elegant trumpet shape and their superior, room-filling fragrance. This vibrant mix includes a spectrum of jewel-bright colours—sunny yellows, vivid reds, snowy whites, violets, and pinks. Each stem carries a "comb" of upward-facing blossoms that open in succession, ensuring a long-lasting display. Perfect for patio pots, sunny borders, or the cutting patch, these freesias bring the essence of a summer garden right into your home.

Key Features

  • Intense Fragrance: Freesias are famous for their scent—a peppery, sweet, floral perfume that is unmistakable. The single varieties in this mix are often more fragrant than their double counterparts, making them essential for planting near seating areas or windows.

  • Vibrant Colour Palette: A carefully selected mix of primary and pastel shades. The single layer of petals allows the light to shine through, giving the flowers a luminous, glowing quality in the sunshine.

  • Exceptional Cut Flower: A staple of the florist trade, Freesias have strong, wiry stems that hold up well in a vase. Cutting them actually encourages the plant to produce more blooms, so you can harvest them guilt-free.

  • Versatile Planting: These corms are "prepared" (heat-treated) to bloom in the first season. They thrive in pots on a warm patio or in a sheltered, sunny border where they can bake in the summer heat.

Gardener's Tip

Freesia stems are slender and can sometimes flop over under the weight of their own blooms, especially after heavy rain. To keep them looking their best, use "The Support Stint." When planting your corms in pots or borders, insert small twiggy sticks (like birch or hazel) or a small wire support ring at the same time. As the foliage grows, it will naturally weave through the support, hiding it from view while keeping the fragrant flower heads upright and clean.
