Gladioli Dwarf 'Prins Claus'
Gladioli Dwarf 'Prins Claus'
The world’s favorite dwarf gladiolus, bringing regal contrast to any garden.
Named after Dutch royalty, 'Prins Claus' is arguably the most famous and beloved of all the dwarf gladioli varieties. It is instantly recognizable by its pure, snowy white petals, each stamped with a vibrant, diamond-shaped fuchsia-pink blotch on the lower petals.
This striking bicolor effect makes the flowers pop from a distance, while the compact growth habit keeps them neat and tidy. Unlike the towering giants that often look out of place in a small garden, 'Prins Claus' integrates perfectly with perennials, grasses, and shrubs, adding a touch of sophisticated drama without dominating the space.
-
Iconic Color: The crisp white and hot pink combination is fresh, modern, and universally appealing.
-
Self-Supporting: Growing to a modest 60cm, the stems are strong enough to hold the blooms upright without the need for stakes or canes.
-
Florist Favorite: This is one of the best varieties for cutting. The stems are straight, and the flowers open sequentially, lasting well over a week in a vase.
-
Reliable Performer: 'Prins Claus' is known for being vigorous and floriferous, often producing multiple stems from established corms.
Gardener's Tip: The "Instant Bouquet" Pot
Crowd them for impact! 'Prins Claus' was practically made for container gardening. To create a stunning "living bouquet" on your patio, plant the corms closer together than you would in the ground. In a 30cm (12 inch) pot, plant 10–12 corms spaced about 2–3cm apart. When they bloom simultaneously, the dense cluster of white and pink flowers looks incredible and provides structural support for each other against the wind.
