Overview

Dwarf Tulip 'Quebec': The Multi-Flowering Marvel

Dwarf Tulip 'Quebec' is a charming and prolific variety from the Greigii group, renowned for its ability to produce a "bouquet on a stem." Unlike standard tulips that produce a single bloom, 'Quebec' often yields 3 to 5 flowers per bulb, creating an instant sensation of abundance. The blooms are a delightful bi-colour mix, featuring creamy-yellow petals with rosy-red flames and blazes that look as if they have been hand-painted. Beyond the flowers, this variety is prized for its decorative, purple-mottled foliage, which adds texture and interest to the garden even before the blooms open. Low-growing and sturdy, 'Quebec' is exceptionally weather-resistant and serves as a perfect choice for rockeries, border fronts, and patio containers.

Key Features

  • Bouquet Effect: A true multi-flowering variety, a single bulb can produce a cluster of 3 to 5 blooms, providing three times the colour impact of standard tulips.

  • Decorative Foliage: Typical of the Greigii family, the broad leaves are beautifully mottled with deep purple and maroon stripes, offering visual interest and ground cover from early spring until the foliage dies back.

  • Compact & Sturdy: With its naturally short stature, 'Quebec' is largely immune to wind damage. It does not require staking and stands up well to spring showers, keeping its shape perfectly in exposed areas.

  • Bi-Colour Charm: The cheerful combination of soft cream and vivid scarlet-orange creates a warm, glowing display that bridges the gap between early and mid-spring blooms.

Gardener's Tip

To maximize the unique "bouquet" characteristic of 'Quebec', placement is key. Because these are dwarf tulips, they should always be planted at the very front of the border or in rock gardens where they won't be overshadowed by taller plants. They shine brightest in patio pots and window boxes; planting them in a shallow, wide bowl allows you to admire the intricate details of the mottled leaves and the multi-headed blooms up close. For a dense carpet of colour, space them slightly closer together (around 8-10 cm) than you would tall tulips.
