Overview
Double Anemone 'The Governor': The Royal Red Showstopper
Inject a splash of passionate colour into your garden with the Double Anemone 'The Governor'. A standout variety from the "St. Brigid" group, this plant is celebrated for its lush, semi-double to double flowers in a striking shade of vivid cardinal red. Each bloom features multiple layers of silky, ruffled petals that encircle a contrasting white ring and a dark, button-like centre. The intense scarlet hue makes it a focal point in any setting, whether planted in rockeries, borders, or patio containers. Like all coronaria anemones, it sits atop delicate, fern-like foliage, creating a sophisticated texture that highlights the bold flowers above.
Key Features
-
Exceptional Cut Flower: Known as a florist's dream, the double petals make the blooms look fuller and more luxurious in bouquets, with a vase life of up to two weeks.
-
Flexible Planting: You can stagger your planting for a long season of colour; plant in autumn for early spring blooms, or in spring for a vibrant summer display.
-
Compact Impact: Growing to a modest height, they are perfect for the front of the border or wind-exposed gardens where taller plants might suffer.
-
High Contrast: The "poppy-like" appearance with the added volume of double petals creates a dramatic visual against green lawns or silver foliage plants.
Gardener's Tip
Just like 'The Bride', Anemone 'The Governor' grows from hard, shrivelled corms that look like dried wood. To ensure they sprout successfully, soak the corms in lukewarm water for 3 to 4 hours (or overnight) before planting. This rehydrates them, causing them to swell significantly and signalling the plant to break dormancy and start rooting.
