Overview

Dahlia Peony 'Fascination' - The Bishop's Rose Fascination

An exquisite and robust variety, Dahlia 'Fascination' offers the striking drama of the dark-leaved dahlias with a beautiful, soft colour palette. This semi-double, peony-flowered beauty displays glorious, large rose-pink to violet-rose blooms with a warm burgundy or golden central disc. These cheerful flowers are magnificently offset by the signature, deep bronze to near-black foliage, providing superb contrast in the border. Growing to around 2.5 to 3 feet, 'Fascination' is an excellent performer, perfect as a cut flower, and its open blooms are highly attractive to bees and butterflies throughout the long season.

Key Features

  • Award-Winning Performance: It holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit. This is the ultimate seal of approval, guaranteeing it performs reliably in British and Irish gardens.

  • Pollinator Magnet: The open, peony-style centre is rich in nectar. While bees struggle with tight "ball" dahlias, they absolutely adore 'Fascination'.

  • Foliage Interest: Even before it blooms, the dark purple foliage acts as a stunning architectural feature, contrasting beautifully against green ferns or grasses.

  • Wind Tolerance: The flowers are lighter and airier than the giant "Dinnerplate" types, making them less likely to snap in a breezy Irish summer.

Gardener's Tip

Prevent the dreaded mildew! In our damp climate, powdery mildew can be an issue for Dahlias late in the season. To keep 'Fascination' healthy, strip off the bottom 15cm (6 inches) of leaves from the main stems once the plant is established in July. This improves airflow around the base of the plant, reduces humidity, and stops slugs from having an easy ladder up to your flowers!
