Overview
Curly Kale ‘Cavolo Nero of Tuscany’
A traditional Italian favourite, Cavolo Nero (also known as Tuscan kale) is prized for its long, dark green leaves and rich, savoury flavour. Despite the “curly kale” label, this variety produces distinctive textured leaves that are perfect for adding depth and nutrition to soups, stews, and sautéed dishes.
Exceptionally hardy, it thrives in Irish growing conditions, standing up well to colder weather and continuing to produce fresh leaves over a long season. Its cut-and-come-again nature makes it a highly productive and rewarding crop for any vegetable garden.

Gardener’s Tip
Sow from spring into early summer in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny position. Keep plants well spaced to allow airflow and reduce the risk of disease.
Harvest lower leaves regularly to encourage fresh growth from the centre. Kale often tastes sweeter after a light frost, making it perfect for autumn and winter harvesting.
