Overview

Cucumber 'White Wonder' Seeds: The Heirloom Alabaster Cucumber

Cucumber 'White Wonder' is a captivating heirloom variety that offers a beautiful departure from the standard green slicer. This highly productive ridge-type is perfect for growing outdoors in the UK and Ireland, producing unusual, striking creamy-white to pale ivory fruits (typically 18–20 cm long). The flavour is wonderfully mild, sweet, and never bitter, with thin, smooth skin and a crisp, juicy texture. Visually stunning and easily digestible, 'White Wonder' is an excellent choice for adding novelty and old-fashioned flavour to your salads and spreads.

Key Features

  • Striking Ivory Appearance: The beautiful, parchment-white skins make these cucumbers easy to spot amongst the foliage and a real talking point on the dinner table.
  • Superior Crunch & Flavour: Features firm, white flesh with a mild, sweet taste and a satisfying "snap," making it a favourite for fresh summer eating.
  • Versatile Growth Habit: Equally happy trailing across a warm vegetable bed or climbing a support, making it adaptable to gardens of all sizes.
  • Prolific Harvest: Known for its heavy cropping potential, providing a steady supply of gourmet cucumbers throughout the peak of summer.

Gardener's Tip

To achieve the best quality and yield from 'White Wonder', train the vines vertically using a trellis, net, or sturdy canes once they start developing their true leaves. Plant seeds indoors in April/May and transplant outdoors in late May/June. Allowing the heavy vines to scramble along the ground can encourage rot and misshapen, dirty fruits. Vertical growing not only saves space but also improves air circulation and ensures the beautiful white fruits hang straight and clean, ready for harvest.
