Courgette 'Verde D’Italia'
Franchi - Courgette 'Verde D’Italia'
Courgette 'Verde D’Italia' Seeds: The Quintessential Italian Zucchini
Grow the classic, delicious courgette that anchors countless Italian dishes with 'Verde D’Italia'. This robust, early-producing variety is the quintessential dark green Italian zucchini, known for its reliable, high yield and its compact bush habit, making it excellent for smaller gardens and containers. The long, medium-dark green fruits have a creamy, subtle flavour and a tender texture, and the plant produces flowers over a long season, perfect for harvesting as edible courgette blossoms.
-
Compact Bush Habit: Ideal for saving space in smaller plots or raised beds, without the wide sprawling vines of other varieties.
-
Dual Harvest: Produces both high-quality, long fruits and abundant, large, edible flowers, perfect for fritters and stuffing.
-
High Productivity: A reliable and vigorous variety that will crop heavily throughout the summer if harvested consistently.
-
Versatile Cooking: The perfect courgette for grilling, frying, baking, or slicing fresh into salads.
Gardener's Tip for Maximising the Crop
The Golden Rule of Harvest! Courgettes must be harvested frequently—ideally when the fruits are long (4–6 inches). Allowing fruits to swell into marrows stops the plant from producing new flowers and dramatically reduces your overall crop yield. Harvest the flowers in the early morning for the best flavour and texture, ensuring you only pick the male flowers if you want maximum fruit set. Once fruiting begins, feed every 14 days with a high-potash (tomato) fertiliser.
