Overview
Courgette 'Lungo Fiorentino' Seeds: The Ribbed Italian Star
Grow the beautiful and highly aromatic heritage variety, 'Lungo Fiorentino' (Long of Florence). This exceptional Italian courgette is easily distinguished by its long, slightly club-shaped fruits of a pale green colour, marked with prominent ribs. Highly valued by chefs for its superior, nutty flavour and firm, tender cream-coloured flesh, it slices beautifully to create a visually appealing, star-shaped cross-section. Like all great Italian varieties, it produces an abundance of blossoms, perfect for harvesting.
Key Features
- Unique Appearance: Distinctive pale green colour and deep ribbing add elegance and authenticity to Italian dishes.
- Star-Shaped Slices: Cutting the ribbed fruit cross-sectionally produces beautiful, star-shaped slices for grilling, frying, or salads.
- Dual Harvest: Highly productive of both quality fruit and large, tender male and female flowers, which are renowned for stuffing and frying.
- Heirloom Reliability: A traditional Italian variety known for its vigorous growth and generous yields throughout the summer.
Gardener's Tip
The Golden Rule of Harvest! Courgettes must be harvested frequently—ideally when the fruits are long (6–8 inches). Allowing fruits to swell into marrows stops the plant from producing new flowers and dramatically reduces your overall crop yield. Once fruiting begins, check the plants daily and feed every 14 days with a high-potash (tomato) fertiliser to support the continuous production of fruit and flowers.
