Gardener’s Tip

Plant bulbs between September and December, 8 cm deep in well-drained soil in a sunny or lightly shaded position. Tulips perform best in soil that drains freely during winter, so improving heavier soil with grit or compost can help encourage healthy growth.

Wear gloves when handling bulbs, as contact with the plant may cause skin irritation, and keep bulbs away from pets and livestock since all parts of the plant are toxic if ingested. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering so the bulbs can store energy for the following season’s blooms.
