Organic Broccoli Ramoso Calbrese
Franchi - Broccoli Ramoso Calbrese
The Authentic "Cut-and-Come-Again" Italian Classic
While modern supermarket broccoli is bred for a single massive head that is harvested once, the traditional Italian heirloom Ramoso Calabrese (meaning "Branching Calabrian") is the gift that keeps on giving. Being Certified Organic, these seeds are free from chemical treatment and ideal for eco-conscious growers.
Native to the cool, coastal region of Calabria in Southern Italy, this variety is prized for its tenderness and incredible productivity. It produces a central main head first, but once harvested, the plant springs back to life, producing dozens of tender side shoots for weeks afterwards.
It has a sweeter, nuttier, and more complex flavor than mass-produced varieties. The stems are not woody; they are succulent and tender, meaning you can eat the entire shoot, stem and all. As an open-pollinated heirloom, it is robust and naturally adapted to varied weather conditions, often performing better in home gardens than fussy commercial hybrids.
Gardener's Tip: Broccoli roots need very firm soil to support the top-heavy plants in the wind. When transplanting your seedlings, firm them in with your heel (don't be shy!) so they don't rock back and forth, which can hinder head formation.
