Overview

Bluebells ‘Non-Scripta’ (Native Irish Bluebell)

Bluebells ‘Non-Scripta’ are the true native bluebells, cherished for their deep violet-blue, nodding bell-shaped flowers and natural woodland charm. Grown in County Waterford, this pure variety brings an authentic and timeless feel to gardens, creating stunning carpets of colour in spring. The delicate, arching stems and rich colouring make them a standout feature in shaded areas.

Flowering in April and reaching around 30 cm in height, these bluebells are ideal for naturalising under trees, along hedgerows, or in shaded garden corners. When planted in groups, they form a beautiful, dense display that returns year after year with minimal effort.

Gardener’s Tip

Plant bulbs between September and December, about 8 cm deep in moist, well-drained soil in shaded or partially shaded areas. Bluebells thrive under deciduous trees where they receive light in spring and shade in summer.

For the best effect, plant bulbs in large groups or drifts to create a natural woodland look. Wear gloves when handling bulbs, as they can cause skin irritation and are toxic if ingested by pets. Once established, allow them to spread naturally for a low-maintenance, returning display each year.
