Overview

Campanula Carpatica Blue Seeds: The Dwarf Carpathian Bellflower

The Dwarf Carpathian Bellflower (Campanula carpatica) is a delightful, compact perennial highly valued for its mass production of exquisite, upward-facing, cup-shaped flowers. This variety delivers a profusion of rich, deep blue/violet-blue blooms that completely cover the low-growing foliage. Forming neat, dense mounds, it is perfectly suited for rock gardens, the front of borders, edging, and patio containers. It is extremely hardy, requires minimal care once established, and provides a continuous, cheerful blue haze throughout the summer, making it a reliable favourite in the UK and Irish garden.

Key Features

  • Stunning Cup-Shaped Blooms: Features prolific, wide-open flowers that face skyward, creating a sea of blue that catches the light beautifully.
  • Perfect for Rockeries & Edging: Its compact, mounding habit makes it the premier choice for rock gardens, "crevice" planting between paving stones, or as a tidy border edging.
  • Prolific Bloom Cycle: With its repeat-flowering nature, this variety provides a reliable splash of colour from early summer well into the cooler months of autumn.
  • Hardy Perennial Performance: Unlike annuals, this reliable plant returns year after year, becoming more established and floriferous with each passing season.

Gardener's Tip

As a long-flowering perennial, the key to maximum display from your Carpathian Bellflowers is aggressive deadheading. Sow indoors in early spring and plant out in late May/early June. When the first flush of flowers begins to fade (usually mid-summer), shear the entire plant back by about one-third using scissors or garden shears. This prompt cutting removes all spent blooms and encourages the plant to immediately put its energy into a robust second flush of flowers, extending the beautiful blue carpet right up until early autumn.
