Dahlia Peony 'Bishop of York' - The Bishop's Sunny Contrast

The brightest member of the famous 'Bishop' family, bringing golden warmth to the summer garden.

The delightful Dahlia 'Bishop of York' brings a burst of warm, sunny colour to the famous 'Bishop' series. This variety is celebrated for its semi-double, bronze-yellow to orange-yellow blooms that sit brightly above the incredibly dark,bronze-purple to nearly black foliage. Growing to a manageable 2 to 3 feet, it provides a consistent, cheerful display from the height of summer through to the autumn. Its open flower structure makes it an unmissable destination for bees and butterflies, and its robust stems ensure it is an excellent and productive cut flower for warm indoor arrangements.

  • The Perfect Contrast: The interplay between the buttercup-yellow blooms and the dark purple-green stems and leaves is sophisticated and modern.

  • Pollinator Favourite: Like all the 'Bishop' series, the open flower shape creates a landing pad for pollinators. Bees absolutely love this variety.

  • Compact & Sturdy: Reaching roughly 75cm, it is slightly more compact than some giants, making it less prone to wind damage—a big plus in our climate.

  • Versatile Partner: It pairs exceptionally well with purple flowers (like Salvia or Verbena bonariensis), creating a classic complementary color scheme.

Gardener's Tip: "Cut Deep for More Blooms"

Don't be shy with the scissors! When you cut flowers for a vase or deadhead spent blooms, don't just snip off the flower head. Trace the stem down until you find a pair of leaves and cut just above that junction. This technique encourages the plant to send out two new stems from that point, rather than just one. The more you cut 'Bishop of York', the bushier the plant becomes and the more golden flowers it will produce.
